So You Think losses 2010 Melbourne Cup favourtism

Bart Cummings has drifted from $3.50 to $4.00 at Sportingbet Australia to train the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner with Shocking replacing So You Think as favourite and his other main contender, Precedence, uncertain of gaining a start next Tuesday.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Cummings hopes of a thirteenth Cup win remained very much intact but punters were betting around his charges at this stage.

“In the past couple of days, we have seen a very good move for Shocking, who has replaced So You Think as favourite, while there has also been good money for Americain, Manighar and Descarado,” Sullivan said.

“So You Think has drifted from $4.20 to $5.25 while Precedence has been $11 out $15 with concerns he may not get a place in the field.

“It is very unusual to see punters let Bart’s Melbourne Cup 2010 contenders drift in the market but I am sure we will see money for them before Tuesday and the $4.00 may be good shopping now.

Cummings also has Queensland Derby winner Dariana and VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume qualified for the Cup on Tuesday.

“Dariana and Faint Perfume were among the early favourites for the race but have drifted to $35 and $51 respectively,” Sullivan said.

“If they were trained by anyone else you would probably write them off but we have seen Bart produce massive form reversals in the past and a big run from either mare wouldn’t surprise.”
