Older Than Time heavily backed for Melbourne Cup 2011

Punters haven’t given up on a local horse winning the Melbourne Cup with the Gai Waterhouse trained Older Than Time backed to win over $100,000 with Sportingbet Australia in the last 48 hours.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the daughter of AJC Derby winner Don Eduardo had been clearly been the best backed roughie this week.

“Older Than Time has shortened from $151 to $81 following a string of mid sized bets that show punters think she has a genuine knockout chance,” Sullivan said.

“Internationals and imported gallopers completely dominate the market and Older Than Time is one of the few Aussie horses with a chance.

“She may be New Zealand bred but punters have her as one of our few hopes in the Cup given all her racing has been in Australia.”

Sullivan said there had also been good money for Metropolitan winner, The Verminator and AJC Derby winner, Shamrocker.

“The Verminator has been backed from $71 to $51 with a bet of $2500 at $71 while Shamrocker has had plenty of friends at $31 despite not really firing yet this Spring,” he said.
