Americain remians favourite after Melbourne Cup barrier draw

Americain still heads Sportingbet Australia’s Melbourne Cup market after drawing barrier 15.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the wide barrier was likely to have little impact on the favourite.

“You’d think he gets back and settles into the race anyway,” said Sullivan.

“He’s the proven horse over the two miles at Flemington and still shapes as the one to beat.”

The big shorteners after Derby Day were Niwot ($101 to $17), Mourayan ($31 to $16), Glass Harmonium ($61 into $41).
