Americain heavily backed to win Melbourne Cup 2011

Defending champion Americain remains the commanding $4.20 favourite to win the 2011 Melbourne Cup following today’s final field announcement and barrier draw.

Niwot, who was $81 before today’s Lexus Stakes, is the big mover and is now into $15 on the back of his devastating win and drawing favourably in barrier nine.

Among other movers after Derby Day, Mourayan is $31 into $15 and Glass Harmonium is $81 into $31 for the Cup.

“Americain aside the Cup is one of the most wide open in years,”’s Haydn Lane said.

“He has been very well-backed, but as we know, anything can happen in a Melbourne Cup and there are plenty of live chances at great odds.”
